C2 dweller checking in.
I've lived in continuously in w-space for about 18 months now. I've always looked to C4-C6 space as the more pure form of wormhole life, completely unbound to k-space. I suppose it's a somewhat romantic notion, similar to living in the backwoods, where C2 life is probably more akin to camping out next to a Walmart. Sure, there's trees and shrubs, but it's not the same. All jokes aside, I'm happy with my current class of living because it affords me the flexibility in opportunities, either I can go deeper into w-space, or head back out to k-space for easy supplies.
Personally, I'll admit I'm more introverted, but I do attribute some of our alliance's lack of socializing on a good dose of xenophobia. It's something that organizationally we are trying to move away from. Lately, we spend more time networking in-game with people we come in contact with than out of game, like in these forums.
Also, I guess from a perception standpoint, I've always held a preconceived notion that the best stories in w-space come out of C5-C6 space, but there was a point a few months back that we noticed that some of the wormhole failblog stories being shared were on the same level as our own. We've killed a blinged out Kronos and Legion before, and caught our very own Archon, all out ratting in their systems, but at the time it never ocurred to us to share those kills with everyone else. Similarly, we share common opinions with everyone else on the current state of all things wormhole. We have nights where there is nothing to shoot at or we are trying to guide out of corp pilots down a chain successfully, and we worry about corp theft and trying to mitigate the damage of spies.
At some point early last year, we started reaching out to apparent new players to encourage them to stick with w-space and not be scared by the fact they found themselves in a pod so suddenly. As a C2 resident, we do feel a bit of responsbility as a w-space gatekeeper to make sure the barriers to entry out here aren't beyond the reach of average pilots, and the intriguing nature of the whole thing is by far one of the best experiences in EVE thus far. Besides, we want more things to shoot at in the future, not less.
So in conclusion, we do feel like we are a part of the overall community, granted just a few voices out of many. |
